Sometimes I find it incredibly hard to make desisions. What to get for a takeaway, Chinese or Indian? Which dress shall I buy, the blue or the black? Which park shall I take the kids to, the small one or the big one? I seem to go through phases where my mind goes blank and I can’t decide anything!
Other times when I’m given options it’s as clear as day what I want and I don’t even have to think about it. It’s pretty annoying as most of the time I know exactly what I want and what to do to get it. When the brain fog kicks in I’m like a different person.
For example for my 30th in July my mum wants to buy me a really nice ring to wear all the time and to pass on to my daughter. Deciding what to get has been a nightmare!! This is something I would normally find easy to decide, so my question to you is, does my bipolar have anything to do with this?!

Yes it does.
Does NOT being bi-polar cause indecision? Yes it does.
Does this society with 500 brands of salad dressing, 200 brands of tooth paste, 100 different cell phone plans and on and on cause indecision? Ya..

Definitely. I have the same experience with indecisiveness and bipolar. It’s gotten much better, but it would annoy then hell out of my friends.

Phew nice knowing I’m not alone!!! Yes I drive people crazy with it too, especially if they’re used to me being really decisive! Xx

Interesting question… my close friends often comment on me being indecisive. I put it down to my anxiety as I’m always thinking about the “what if…”….which then stops me being able to make a decision! Argh!

Aw bless u, I can relate to that sometimes!! Mine is more that my mind goes blank and I have no clue, it’s like I loose my personality lol xxx

I definitely think it has something to do with bipolar. I’ve read that it is common with depression.

A few people have said that actually which is interesting as I’m manic most of time lol I think my brain goes into over load 😂 xx

I’m sooo terrible at decision making! But it seems that I’ll impulsively make split-second decisions on the major choices, but when it comes to choosing new underwear, I’ll stand there for 45 min trying to decide which colors I want. It’s so annoying!

Oh, dear gracious.
Thank you for this post!!!
I have *never* considered that my lifelong (and getting worse the older I get) and often painful indecisiveness was a part of being bipolar! Somehow (no idea why) that is something of a comfort. I struggle almost daily with the simplest decisions. I put off answering yea or nay to social invitations till the last minute. The list is endless, and it makes me feel like an simpleton that can’t make up her mind!!!

I do the same thing (indecisive a lot). I had never thought to connect that with my recent bipolar diagnosis… interesting!

Interesting question. I am the same. I agree with the guy who pointed out how overwhelmed in society we are by choices presented to us. I suspect that is the reason why I can stare helplessly at toothpaste brands for an hour. There’s also just scattered thoughts, speedy thoughts, overthinking, apathy( ie. I’m too low to care to even make a choice here so I dunno…) As far as with mania, thoughts can be so jumpy or 1000 of them competing for room in the brain at once, so yeah, that could cause a challenge in decision making for sure.

Honey, you are preaching to the choir. To answer your question yes it is a normal symptom of bipolar. The frustrating part for me ( and others may agree) that you are seen by others as being wishy washy, but all you are trying to do is decide what you want. It is like one option has a positive benefit that another option doesn’t have. But at the same time I tend to focus on how the plan could go wrong. I have notices that I tend to self-sabotage when things are going well. I start to panic and decision making becomes even more difficult. Just take it one thought at a time. If you have to write a pro and cons list down if you need to.

I dont think im bipolar (is there a test i can do to find out) but im sooo indecisive. I go to bed at night planning my whole day and ill still wake up indecisive in the morning… what to exercise…what to wear… what to buy at the supermarket. …. its annoying… so what i do now is go with what comes first in mind….as a result ive ended up showing up at work as a clown sometimes…..who cares! We are special…. we really gotta weigh our options…right?

Trust me….. u better of being Bipolar… just kidding.. i think that we should all embrace our individuality and learn how to cope best with it… my biggest issue with being a HSB is not able to have or maintain boundaries… am extremely high on the Empath scale and that can be very very hard at times… but ah well! Thats how I was made!

I read somewhere in research that it does make you indecisive especially if anxiety is attached to bipolar x

I hate to be the damp squid. I am incredibly decisive – and make decisions immediately. Often too quickly. Whether I am up, down, anxious, whatever. I get indecisive on some medications, because I am slowed down.

😂😂 a damp squid 😂😂 I love that!!!! You also made a very valid point, I never used to be this indecisive before my meds, that I can remember xxxx
